  1.  Tonight Array Studio with the Toronto Improvisors Orchestra, I'm playing synth.
  2. Tomorrow I have a mix session with William an Gord. We are finalising our mixes of our symphonic noise trio. Really. What a creative project this turned out to be.
  3. Thursday night I hope to hang out at the Annette jam.
  4. Friday my buddy Rory returns and we play some piano/bass/duets. Always a treat.
  5. Daily practice memorising jazz piano standards and reviewing my students' classical piano repertoire.
  6. Daily practice on the drum set, my personal passion project.

Cheers,

David

  1. Student workshop at Annette Studios, Toronto. The jazz students play in a professional trio today. Always a highlight for everyone concerned.
  2. Cubase Pro 10 tutorials continue. I'm happy I upgraded. Though these damned DAW clearly have a lot of technological determinism build into them. They are clearly designed so that the unskilled can make some recognizable noises. The music of the tutorials is nearly universally mind numbingly banal because of that.  ("Technological determinism is a reductionist theory that assumes that a society's technology determines the development of its social structure and cultural values. The term is believed to have originated from Thorstein Veblen (1857–1929), an American sociologist and economist." Wikipedia)
  3. Practicing my ass off in order to stave off banality in my own work.
  4. Thursday night is Jazz jam.

Sunday we had a recording session with my friends Ed Sweetman and Roland Hunter. We recorded a piece of Ed's and one of mine. This week I will overdub drums over the piano, guitar, bass tracks. What a blast. We will post the music after it's all done.
Monday we had a mix session with William Davison and Gordon Way. Our video project is now in audio mix. We hope for our first postings by Christmas.
Tuesday is practice day for me. I will prepare Lady Bird and a reharmonized All the things you are for my coaching session this Friday.
Wednesday is jam night at the Jazz Bistro. This promises to be fun. But first it's trio day in the basement with Jim Finlayson and Rory Slater my brothers in Jazz.
Thursday is jam night at Tim's. Piano for me.
Friday is coaching day: Mark Eisenman with piano in the morning, drumming technique with Lowell Whitty in the afternoon.
Saturday I rest.
Sunday is our first outing with students and a jazz trio workshop.

Best,

David Story
