Music Biography
David Story is a multifaceted musician skilled as a pianist, drummer, synthesist, and xylophonist.
He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Composition and Arranging from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, USA, and an ARCT in piano education from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he earned several scholarships. Currently, he is expanding his expertise by studying percussion.
David's journey in Free Jazz was under the tutelage of Victor Bateman in Toronto, culminating in performances with Glen Hall, redShift—a creative free jazz ensemble in Toronto—and various other free jazz and improvisational gigs in the city with notable artists like Rick Sacks, Eugene Martynec, Cheryl O, Bill Gilliam, Bruce Cassidy, Jason Hammer, Michael Morse, Alan Molnar, among many others.
After a vibrant three-decade tenure as a journeyman in the entertainment industry, David retired. His career spanned roles as a jazz pianist, rock/pop musician, composer, band leader, producer, copyist, and agent, collaborating with a spectrum of local, national, and international acts across three countries. He has worked with a diverse array of artists, from the renowned to the obscure. Presently, David performs locally with the Metropolitan Silver Band, The Kerr Street Big Band in Oakville, and ensembles linked to Array Studios and the Tranzac Club.
David's compositions are published through the Novus Via Music Group.

He specializes in teaching Classical, Jazz, Blues, and Boogie Woogie piano to adults online. On weekends, David is often seen performing on drums and synthesizer with a diverse group of musicians and dancers across various ensembles, including the Metropolitan Silver Band and The Kerr Street Big Band, as well as participating in New Music, Jazz, and Free Improvisation scenes. He certainly enjoys a wide range of musical styles!
